Mala is recruiting new members for its committee; we are especially looking for lawyers based in Leicester and Birmingham. Please see the members of the current committee.


INFORMATION


Timetable


1.     The deadline for submitting your application together with your C.V. (max 2 pages) is Friday, 28th February 2025, 4pm. This must be emailed to us.


2.     Candidates will be shortlisted and will be notified by Friday, 14 March 2025.


3.     Shortlisted candidates will then be interviewed remotely by the recruitment panel. You will be notified of the final decision by Friday, 28th March 2025 (subject to all interviews being held by this date).

Role Description


1.     MALA covers two key areas; the East Midlands and West Midlands.


2.     MALA is looking to recruit up to:

(i)             Three new committee members based in the West Midlands; and

(ii)            Three new committee members based in the East Midlands.


3.     We are looking to recruit practising barristers/ solicitors/ legal executives.


4.     In particular, we are keen for at least one of the new recruits to be able to assist with:

(i) educational events; and

(ii)MALA’s website, the booking system and producing advertising material for events. We use Wix and its platform to manage and edit our website.


Wix is intuitive and user friendly but good IT skills are required. The work involves:

·       Uploading and managing photos

·       Writing text and editing pages

·       Spending a few hours a month (but sometimes more for busy periods) managing the web pages

I

deally, you should have experience of publishing software, Wix or similar design platforms for websites. However, you can learn this by spending some time on the editor.


5.     All committee members must positively contribute to our work with commitment.


6.     Recruits must be able to use social media for the purpose of promoting our work and events, eg. facebook, twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn.


7.     Discussions and decisions are primarily over email and Whatsapp.


8.     We hold approximately 3-4 meetings spread out over the year. These are held, usually remotely, on weekdays from about 6pm. The duration of these meeting can be up to a few hours.


9.     MALA requires all members to attend meetings, attend events, contribute to discussions, decisions and the organising of events. We appreciate that due to professional/ personal commitments, there may be occasions where members cannot do so.

 

The recruitment panel will consist of up to three members from the MALA Committee.
